Actor and hero, Chadwick Boseman, has passed away at the age of 43 following a four-year battle with colon cancer.

Shortly after his passing, Chad’s family issued a heartfelt statement across his social accounts:

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.  A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.  It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.  He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side.  The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Chadwick was born in South Carolina, and graduated from Howard University in 2000. During the early stages of his acting career, he played small roles in television before landing the role of Jackie Robinson in 42 in 2013. He went on to portray James Brown in Get on Up, and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall.

Even after his cancer diagnosis in 2016, Chad continued to act. He appeared in several Marvel movies – including the role the world would come to know him best for, T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, in Black Panther.

He portrayed a hero onscreen, and acted like one off-screen as well.
