This feature is Part 3 of 3 of our “Stay Healthy Tip of the Day” series, presented with Coldrops®. Coldrops® for Symptom Relief in Just One Drop®.

Happy New Year!  Here are some tips to keep your family healthy as you start off the new year!

  1. Disinfect your workspace at the beginning and end of each day including your keyboard, mouse and desk. A clean office space helps to prevent picking up and spreading germs to and from colleagues.
  2. Unless you’ve just washed your hands, avoid touching your face. Your nose and eyes are easy entry points for germs to invade your system and make you sick.
  3. Find time to hit the gym – regular exercise isn’t only good for your muscles, it also helps to enhance your immune system and build your defence against germs.
  4. Wash your mittens and gloves often. When your hands are covered, they aren’t picking up as many outdoor germs, but your gloves are.  It’s important to keep them clean to avoid hanging onto those germs!
  5. Celebrating the New Year with a family dinner out? Bring crayons from home for your kids to colour with at the restaurant so they aren’t picking up germs from the crayons at the restaurant.
  6. Wash your hands for a minimum of twenty seconds several times throughout the day And… don’t forget to scrub the back of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails for a complete clean.
  7. Instead of simply rinsing out sponges, disinfect them by throwing them through the dishwasher to kill germs and bacteria
  8. Keep a travel pack of tissues handy for your kids while they’re at school to prevent them from wiping their runny nose on their sleeve.
  9. Keep hand sanitizer with you for a quick clean when you’re on the go and can’t wash your hands.
  10. Eating well balanced and nutritious meals play an essential role in keeping your immune system strong and maintaining overall wellness, especially during cold season.
  11. Relax! When you’re feeling stressed so is your immune system making it harder to fight off germs and viruses.
  12. Wash your bedding frequently to remove germs, dust mites and dead skin cells
  13. Clean and disinfect surfaces and shared items regularly. Viruses can live on hard surfaces such as countertops, door handles and light switches for up to 8 hours.
  14. Utilize fans in high moisture areas of your home such as the bathroom and kitchen to help prevent the growth of mold and bacteria.
  15. To prevent spreading germs to others, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your upper sleeve when your cough or sneeze.
  16. Use paper towels to turn off the faucet and open the door when you’re using a public washroom.
  17. Use sanitary wipes or reusable cloths with a disinfectant to clean door knobs and light switches daily to knock away germs trying to sneak into your house
  18. Clean re-useable water bottles daily to help prevent germs from accumulating and keep you healthy
  19. Use a handbag that can be easily wiped down or washed. If you don’t clean your handbag, it’ll hold onto germs and pass them back to you day after day.  This goes for kids’ backpacks and lunch bags too!
  20. Thoroughly wash fruits and vegetables before eating, cutting or cooking them to remove germs and bacteria
