The man who got the whole thing rolling with the original “Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981 says he’s ready to shake things up.  Steven Spielberg told Britain’s The Sun when Harrison Ford retires, he’d be open to casting a woman in the main role.  The man who also gave us “ET, Jaws and Jurassic Park” says he’s confident the 5th Jones movie expected to come out in July of 2020 will be the last one for Ford who will be 78 by the time it hits the big screen.  As for the Indy franchise, he says it will certainly continue after that and he believes it’s time for the character to take a different form.

When asked if that meant a woman, he said: “we’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that.”  It’s not the first time he’s indicated that big changes are coming and the 71-year old has always been a big advocate of the Time’s Up campaign.

Ford first appeared as Indiana Jones in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, and has continued playing him since, most recently with 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
