leafs ceremony

100 years. Our hockey team hits the century mark this year, and so far so good: the jerseys look fantastic, the team seems headed in the right direction, and last night’s opening ceremony was spectacular.  Spectacular…and surprising. The team announced it had changed its long-standing tradition of retiring numbers; used to be you had to die while a member of the team to have your number so honoured.  It actually did happen (twice in fact): to Ace Bailey and Bill Barilko.  Other greats had their numbers honoured, but never retired.  That changed last night, as 11 numbers were sent to the rafters never to be worn again.  Sportsnet has the video of what was an emotional, moving night at the ACC.

Are you glad the Leafs changed this policy?
