Canadian Andre De Grasse ran the fastest time of all competitors to move on to the semifinals in the 200m race. He’ll be in tough as Usain Bolt is also chasing for a chance at gold in the 200m in Rio.

RIO DE JANEIRO – What Canada Did on Tuesday at the Rio Summer Olympic Games (distances in metres):

ATHLETICS
Men’s 200 — Andre De Grasse, Markham, Ont., finished first in qualifying in 20.09. Aaron Brown, Toronto, finished 11th in 20.23. Both advanced to the next round. Brendon Rodney, Brampton, Ont., finished 21st in 20.34 and did not advance.

Men’s 1,500 — Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, Quebec City, finished 18th in qualifying in 3:40.04. Nathan Brannen, Cambridge, Ont., finished 28th in 3:47.07. Both advanced to the next round.

Women’s 100 hurdles — Phylicia George, Markham, Ont., finished eighth in qualifying in 12.83. Nikkita Holder, Pickering, Ont., finished 20th in 12.92. Both advanced to the next round. Angela Whyte, Edmonton, finished 30th in 13.09 and did not advance.

Women’s 5,000 — Andrea Seccafien, Guelph, Ont., finished 20th in qualifying in 15:30.32. Jessica O’Connell, Calgary, finished 26th in 15:51.18. Neither advanced to the next round.

Women’s pole vault — Kelsie Ahbe, Toronto, finished eighth in qualifying, clearing 4.55 metres and advanced to the next round. Alysha Newman, London, Ont., finished 17th at 4.45, and Annika Newell, Toronto, finished 29th at 4.15. Neither advanced to the next round.

Women’s javelin — Elizabeth Gleadle, Vancouver, finished ninth in qualifying with a throw of 60.28 metres. She did not advance to the next round.

Men’s 110 hurdles — Johnathan Cabral, Peribonka, Que., finished fourth in his semifinal in 13.41 and qualified for the final. Cabral finished sixth in the final in 13.40.

Women’s 400 hurdles — Sage Watson, Medicine Hat, Alta., finished 11th in the semifinal in 55.44. Noelle Montcalm, Belle River, Ont. finished 18th in 56.28. Neither qualified for the final.

Women’s long jump — Christabel Nettey, Surrey, B.C., finished 20th in qualifying with a jump of 6.37 metres. She did not advance to the next round.

Men’s high jump — Derek Drouin, Corunna, Ont., won the gold medal with a jump of 2.38 metres.

Women’s 200 — Crystal Emmanuel, Toronto, finished 23rd in the semifinals in 23.05 and did not qualify for the final.

BASKETBALL
Women — Canada lost 68-63 to France in the quarter-finals and was eliminated from the tournament. Kim Gaucher, Mission, B.C., led in scoring with 15 points.

BOXING
Women (Fly 48-51kg) — Mandy Bujold, Kitchener, Ont., lost to Cancan Ren, China, 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

CANOE/KAYAK
Men’s singles K1 1000 — Adam van Koeverden, Oakville, Ont., finished first in the B final in 3:31.872.

Men’s singles C1 1000 — Mark Oldershaw, Burlington, Ont., finished fourth in the B final in 4:06.972.

Women’s doubles K2 500 — KC Fraser, Oakville, Ont., and Genevieve Orton, Lake Echo, N.S., finished fifth in the B final 1:49.3.89.

Women’s singles K1 200 — Andreanne Langlois, Quebec City, finished sixth in the B final in 42.099.

CYCLING (TRACK)
Women — Allison Beveridge, Calgary, finished ninth in the omnium 500m time trial and sixth in the flying lap 250m time trial. Her total of 104 points placed her 11th overall at the end of competition.

Men — Hugo Barrette, Iles de la Madeleine, Que., finished fourth in his heat in keirin. He finished second in his repechage heat.

DIVING
Men’s three-metre springboard — Philippe Gagne, Ville de Mont Royal, Que., finished fifth in the semifinal with a score of 445.40 and qualified for the final. Gagne finished 11th in the final with 425.30.

EQUESTRIAN
Jumping Individual — Eric Lamaze, Schomberg, Ont. (Fine Lady 5) finished 10th in qualifying; Yann Candele, Caledon, Ont. (First Choice 15) finished 16th; Amy Millar, Perth, Ont. (Heros) finished 29th; Tiffany Foster, North Vancouver, B.C. (Tripple X III) finished 38th. All four advanced to the next round.

Jumping Team — Canada (Candele, First Choice 15; Foster, Tripple X III; Millar, Heros; Lamaze, Fine Lady 5) finished sixth in qualifying and advanced to the next round.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING
Men’s 10-km — Richard Weinberger, Surrey, B.C., finished 17th in the final in 1:53:16.4.

SAILING
Women’s 49er FX — Erin Rafuse, Halifax, and Dannie Boyd, Kingston, Ont., were 18th after the 10th race; were 16th after the 11th race and finished 14th after the 12th race.

SOCCER
Women — Canada lost 2-0 to Germany in the semifinals and will play Brazil for the bronze medal on Friday.

SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING
Duets — Jacqueline Simoneau, Saint-Laurent, Que., and Karine Thomas, Gatineau, Que., finished seventh in the final with a score of 179.8916.
